It's more than wishful thinking —  dark chocolate IS good for you.

We’d love to tell you that our chocolates will make you into a happier person, or even a better lover. But we can’t. Although scientists working hard on such questions, until there is conclusive evidence of cacao’s properties, we will restrict ourselves to scientific or proven facts.

Cacao beans are extremely high in natural anti-oxidants.  These are miracle biological elements which are great for reducing the nasty ‘free radicals’ which modern life throws at us at every turn. These anti-oxidants can increase the levels of nitric oxide in the blood stream and this in turn aids our blood vessels to dilate, thus allowing blood flow to improve. Studies have also shown that cacao anti-oxidants reduce the rate at which our blood clots.

Since our bars are dark, with very high proportions of cacao and very little sugar added, you can indulge in their unique flavour with confidence. They contain as many anti-oxidants as six apples or two glasses of red wine. Delicious and healthy: your chocolate passion has never been so beneficial.

If you’re wondering why eating chocolate is so pleasurable, well, there is scientific evidence for this, too. The latest research points to a neurotransmitter called anandamine, (a.k.a. the BLISS molecule), being the cause of the sense of well-being. And if you feel more energetic and lively after eating chocolate, that’s due to the caffeine, theobromine and phenythylamine – all alkaloids present in cacao doing their thing.

Furthermore, leave the guilt aside, like any plant-based food, chocolate naturally contains an array of minerals.  All in all, an energizing, anti-oxidant, euphoria-inducing wonder bar.

Dark Chocolate Lowers Blood Pressure & Lowers Cholesterol

Studies have shown that consuming a small bar of dark chocolate everyday can reduce blood pressure in individuals with high blood pressure.  Dark chocolate has also been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol) by up to 10 percent.

Chocolate Boosts Brain Power

Yet another report has been published glorifying the health benefits of dark chocolate in the , encouraging individuals to make chocolate part of a brain power boosting regime.

Flavonoid Rich Chocolate helps heart health

A new Japanese study suggests that consuming dark chocolate containing flavonoids on a regular basis improves coronary blood flow, reducing the risk of fatty build up in the arteries and heart attacks.  "Flavonoid-rich dark chocolate had acute effects in improving coronary function in healthy adults, as compared to non-flavonoid white chocolate, independent of changes in oxidative stress parameters, blood pressure and lipid profile," researchers said.

Campaigns for Benefits of Dark Chocolate

"The evidence is there, that dark chocolate is a better alternative to milk chocolate and is a source of some key anti-oxidants," stated researcher Sandra Capra from the University of Newcastle . "Anyone already on a healthy and balanced diet should be able to indulge occasionally in one or two squares of dark chocolate and benefit from a few health benefits as well."
